Questions people ask
What is an area code?
An area code is the 3-digit prefix of a US or Canadian phone number that shows which part of the country the number belongs to: 212 for Manhattan, 416 for Toronto. Every +1 number is the area code plus a 7-digit local number.
What is an overlay area code?
When an area runs out of numbers, a second code is added for the same place instead of splitting it. Both codes then serve the same area, which is why New Yorkers can have 212, 646 or 332 numbers.
Can I choose my area code when I get a virtual number?
Yes, if numbers are free in it. When you buy a US or Canadian number on callmins you can search by area code (US $2.00/month, no setup fee). Stock changes daily, so a popular code may need a nearby or overlay alternative.
