How do I get a Canadian virtual phone number?

Do I need to live in Canada or have a Canadian address?

No. callmins sells Canadian numbers to people in any country. You need an internet connection and a debit or credit card; there is no Canadian address, SIN or bank account requirement.

Is it a real Canadian number?

Yes. It is an ordinary +1 Canadian local number on the North American phone network, issued through our licensed carrier, Telnyx. People in Canada and the US call and text it at their normal domestic rate.

Can I use a Canadian number for WhatsApp or app verification?

We haven't confirmed it yet. Our UK (+44) numbers receive WhatsApp codes, and our US numbers don't; for Canadian numbers we don't have enough evidence either way. Telegram doesn't send codes to any of our numbers, Canadian ones included. If a sign-up code is the reason you need a number, choose a UK number, which costs about the same.

What's the difference between a Canadian and a US number?

Both use the +1 country code and the same dialling format, so they look alike. A Canadian number has a Canadian area code, so people in Canada see a local number when you call or text them. If your contacts are mostly in the US, a US number makes more sense.

Can I keep the number?

Yes, as long as the monthly rent keeps renewing from your wallet. If the wallet has under $5 or can't cover a renewal, the number is released when it expires and may go to someone else, so keep at least $5 in your wallet if the number matters.
