Set up iCloud (Apple Account) on a US number

  1. Buy a US number

    Sign up at callmins.com, top up $5 or more and buy a US number ($2.00/month, no setup fee).

  2. Enter it in iCloud (Apple Account)

    Go to Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security → Two-Factor Authentication, or appleid.apple.com, and add a trusted number.

  3. Enter the code

    Enter your callmins number and choose text or phone call. Read the code in callmins and enter it.

  4. Lock it down

    Keep a second trusted number (your own SIM) on the account as well, so you can still sign in if one is unavailable.

Keep the number while you use the account

iCloud (Apple Account) can ask for a new code when you change phones or log in again. If the number lapses, it can later be given to someone else, who would receive that code. Keep renewing, or move iCloud (Apple Account) to another number first.
